I feel I am always creating, living or simply being in a situation.
Everything that ever was and ever will be comes forward in a situation. We can never leave a single situation without entering another. In a creative sense, I felt this when working with stone. Its matter, firmness, weight and form, given to it by nature and time, have led me to consider its matter, as well as its existential and transcendental situation. I have a deep seated interest in the "Situation - Time" relationship, and developed the possibility to affect its change. I feel that through it I can understand my situation. Its specific matter leads me to the correct decisions which, in turn, take me to the essence of existence. This is why situations exist - the change they bear to the light of day, giving way to something that was not.
Each stone has its singularly unique form, and, when in my hands, a spontaneous reaction and decision about its shaping is birthed. Every stone I work with is an object where everything is displayed in its' depth, where I sense its origin and its perfect peace. Through it I re-live the mystery of nature, my personal subject-object relationship.
Here, matter is present before the idea. This creates a completely opposite relationship than when beginning the process of creating a painting. In a primordial sense, matter gives way to the idea, thus the Two become one. As though I am about to be born.
Birth is the end of the idea.
